This is actually a fairly large piece... done on paper which was later applied to black matboard...
Mixed media... ink and watercolour.
I think this was the last assignment of the year in my Painting and Drawing class...
I don't remember what it exactly was... but I know it had to be a self portrait, possibly creating our figure/face out of things that make us who we are.
So I used a mirror and drew the figure... added in the ink... added in the words on the right... and then the watercolor [ I'm partial to splatterpainting. ]

The top says my quote, Expect Nothing and Everything.
Around the figure, the symbols each mean a word. It's take me a while, but I'm pretty sure I can still figure out what it says. I know most of it but some of the symbols are hard to decipher. I'd rather not put a translation here though.

On the right, it says:

"He held out his hands, more sacred than any god, and the rivers pledged devotion to him.
She raised drowned eyes to find two worlds, and there was at once, her needed serenity."

... A lot of deep and personal meaning, this piece has.
